Carriage House

An owner from England dreamed of an English carriage house design on a site just outside of Alexandria, Virginia. Changing material from brick to stone creates the impression of a building layered over time. In the custom home plans, a restrained brickwork frieze steps up to clapboard gables; a reclaimed weathervane purchased by the owner creates balance between the gables in the classic home design. A pass-through to a motor courtyard leads to car storage and a workshop. Interwoven into the carriage house plans, a staircase and artwork are interlaced on the interior. A considered custom home design fostered the creation of a classic, contemporary and warm carriage house.
